After weeks of listening to people in the office sing about “Boats and Ho’s”, I decided I better check out Step Brothers (starring Will Ferrell & John C. Reilly).  Over the weekend I went to my handy dandy “On Demand” feature on my cable box and tried to find it.  After a good 20 minutes of searching every category, it became apparent to me that it was not there.  Now what would I do?  Do I dare try to find one of those Video Rental stores??  After all, every single one by me had closed.  What would I do?  How dare they not have it in a place where I can just be billed for it and it would just show up on my TV!

I went on Google and found there was still one of these Video Rental stores 18 miles from my house.  18 MILES AWAY!  How inconvenient it was to get in my car on a cold day and actually have to drive somewhere just to get this video!  A few years ago, they were everywhere and we even had 2 places in town to go to.  Anyway, I went to this place and they had 1 copy left.  For $5.50 I had the privilege to not only find out what “Boats and Ho’s” was about…BUT….I got to drive back to this place the next day to RETURN it!  On a side note, I also rented NCAA 07 for the XBOX but that had a 7 day return.  Now I need to do math and remember I need to come back tomorrow and a week from today.  Thankfully this place was on my way to work so all I had to do was remember to bring it in a week.  That should be no problem seeing I have the memory of Ronald Regan in his later years.

It just made me think about how “back in the day” we could just walk or drive a minute down the road for this and here I am driving a total of 72 miles for the same thing.  Thankfully, Step Brothers was funny and I now am in the loop about “Boats and Ho’s”.

Hopefully, I never have to do this again.

This morning I had the pleasure of attending the Mascot Musical Chairs contest and Pizza Party at the Franciscan Hospital for Children.  MIKE-FM is going to be having a radio-thon for the hospital this Friday 12/19 between 6AM-8PM so make sure to listen and donate…these kids really need you!!

When I arrived, I had asked who was going to be there.  I was told Mascots from The Red Sox, BC Eagles, Boston Cannons and The Lowell Devils would be in attendance.  So the contest starts and there is this Ram type looking mascot there that nobody seems to know about.  Usually Mascots have the team shirt on, the name on them somewhere etc.  This just was a Ram with some dental issues that went by the name Ramsey.

Don’t get me wrong…I am glad he showed up.  The more the merrier and the kids had a blast!  I just thought it was funny that a Mascot got word of this event somehow in like a Mascot newsletter or something and decided to just show up to join the fun!  You have to give Ramsey some respect…he marches to the beat of his/her own drum and was not going to be left out of this great event!  Oh, and as it turns out, Ramsey was from Suffolk University.

On a side note…I am a HUGE Boston College fan and asked the BC Eagle if I could have his Bowl tickets so I could see BC play on 12/31.  I mean, he is the mascot so he doesn’t need his tickets, right?  He will be busy on the field running around with the BC flag and helping to get the crowd excited.  Well, he didn’t hook me up like a good Eagle should :( so I guess I am going to be watching it on ESPN like everyone else!  That’s ok though because he was nice enough to come to our party today and support the Franciscan Hospital.  For more information on our radio-thon this Friday, click here.

Over the weekend I had the task of getting a Christmas tree.  I decided this year that I wanted to get a small fake one as I had just moved from a house that had plenty of room, to a smaller place that had no room at all thanks to some great timing on my part.

I found a sweet deal at a local chain store for a 6 foot tree that had lights built into it all for the amazing price of $30.  Thinking I had found the steal of the season, I quickly grabbed this box of holiday happiness and headed to the register to pay for it so I could spend the rest of my day being festive.

Well, when I got home and put this dandy little thing together, a few things happened.  1) it looked like the cheapest thing ever and had shinny branches, 2) if it was really 6ft. tall as the box described than I am really 7ft tall, and 3) it looked very sick…like it had been starved at the fake Christmas tree factory.

I was going to bring it back, except that would mean I would have had to pack it back up, drive back to the store and go through the fun process of returning it, and then I would still have to find a suitable tree.  Not really how I wanted to spend my day.

So, this Christmas I will settle for my tree looking even more pitiful than the one Charlie Brown had. Next year I will just have to move to a larger place that can accommodate a bigger tree.  Easy enough, right?!?
