Well, that is not really true.  What I hate is coming into work and heading to our kitchen to grab a nice cold Diet Coke and gag from the smell of old food that is sitting on the table.  Now, when I say old food I do not mean that someone left their lunch out by accident.  This is truly just someone in the building not using their head!

You see, when you work in the media, there are a ton of cool benefits.  For instance, you can get a job like mine and really have nothing to do with your day except for write blogs and have lunch, you get cool tickets to shows and you get free food drop offs!  I want to focus on the free food drop offs for a second.

Let’s just “role play” here for a moment.  Let’s say that you have a….well….I don’t know….a radio show and it gets over sometime at night.   Now during your show, let’s just say a delivery comes in from a local restaurant that really likes you and wants to feed you or wants you to try a new dish that they have.  You graciously eat the food and then finish off your show nice and full.  Now, your show is done and you have a lot of extra food.  What should you do with it?  I can only come up with a few options.

1) Take it home with you

2) Throw it away

3) Leave it out all night, all weekend and into the morning just in case someone likes 3 day old open and exposed to the warm air meat and vegetable dishes.

I have a feeling that most of us would select #1 or #2.  Well, guess what?  There is someone here who consistently picks #3!!  I never like to look a gift horse in the mouth (or however that goes) but can anyone logically think that

“I could just place this in the trash bucket right in front of me, or put it in the refrigerator in case anyone may want some of this…but I really think it would be best to just leave this out and open on the table.  I know it is Friday night, but you never know…someone could walk in Monday morning and really want a bite to eat.  I guess I will just leave it out.”

GROSS!!!!

Anyway, if you work at a place that has had this happen, please let me know how you handled it.  I am thinking about posting a sign that says “Just Toss It” but but don’t want anyone here to know I did it.  But, they are all really busy and I seem to be the only one escaping the “daily grind” around here, so I may be safe.  Enjoy your Monday! Anyone hungry?

  1. Hahaha! SO funny!! I think you should try to take a bite of it one monday just to see if its all that gross! and u cant put a sign up now and expect no one to know it was just u since you just posted it! Anyways if I was you I’d conduct a full blown investigation and whoever is leaving the food out make them take a bite out of it:) Thanks for making me laugh today!

  2. Dear Big Daddy,

I may or may not be a fellow employee @ Mike FM. I may or may not have been working on Friday night when this dish was still steamy and fresh.

Now what I DIDN’T do is order this meal or eat any of it…but I DID work again on Sunday and noticed it was still there, much to my disgust. However, I did not take it upon myself to “Just Toss It” incase someone was conducting some sort of science experiment. Does this make me an accomplice? Perhaps.

Either way I’d like to thank you for pointing out that old stinky food should be thrown away or refrigerated when one is done eating it.
