I have had the “luxury” of moving to a new house this week and it has been nothing but a pain in the you know what!
Between the packing, getting rid of old stuff, hiring the movers and selling things I didn’t want anymore, I am just wiped out! Needless to say, that I was relieved on Tuesday night that I was in the new place and just had to worry about where I was going to place the flat screen!
Well, yesterday I find out my electricity was turned off at the new place. So I call the fine folks at the electric company, and they tell me it was turned off because I did not fax back a copy of my drivers license by yesterdays “deadline”. Now to fill you in on this, they send me an email on Friday telling me to fax over my ID so they can verify I am really me (because I am sure people run around town saying they are me to get electricity!?!) to a toll free fax # by 7/16 or my service would be shut. Once they received it, someone would call me. Thats it…as easy as that. WRONG!
I explained to the helpful lady that I had in fact faxed over my license on Tuesday morning. I went through the day doing all of the things I do here and went home not realizing that they never called. So when I came in yesterday, I faxed it again. About 2 hours later I find out the power is off at my place! Now, keep in mind that I have now sent this paper twice and they did not give me a # to call them…they were supposed to call me if needed.
She told me there was nothing they could do and that my power would be connected the next day. THE NEXT DAY?? She obviously thought I was going to be ok going to my new place and NOT being able to go on the web, watch tv, shower with hot water and how about being able to have some light to see?? So my mind came up with a quick idea…LIE to her and guilt her into taking care of this NOW. We all know they have a gazillion trucks and they can send someone over if I really have a need. So, this is what I came up with.
I told her that I had a 3 month old baby and my wife cannot feed her naturally and needs to have a pump do the work and that needs to be plugged in. I also told her we had only 2 bottles left and the baby was having one of them now. Without power, we can’t pump and the baby will be hungry. Pretty good, huh? Well, she said there was nothing she could do!! So, I kicked it up a notch, knowing they could do something.
I told her we just moved to town from 500 miles away and we didn’t know anybody. We had nowhere to go to plug the pump in to feed the baby. I also said that the pump takes 3 hours to make 3 bottles and time was against us. If we wern’t pumping soon, we would have to go to the ER for nutrition. I still was not getting anywhere! I asked if I could speak to a supervisor, hoping that they could realize the bind I was in and work some magic.
So the supervisor calls back and I tell him the whole story again. He apologizes, and says that he can’t anyone out until tomorrow am. I pleaded with him to get someone there so my baby could eat. I even asked him to tell me how to do it and I would climb the pole and take care of it for my child. He told me that would be against the law and I would probably shock myself to death and that would not be a good idea. I couldn’t believe it….they were really going to leave me and my “baby” hanging! How could this great story not be working??
The worst part about this (well, besides the fact that my pretend baby would starve) is that they messed up! I have the fax recipt that tells me it went through fine both times that I sent it. Also, they do not give you a phone # to call and check to make sure they got it ok. They tell you that they will call you! Well, I have to be honest with you, I did not sit by my phone waiting for the call. I had lunch to eat and had to catch up on my TMZ. I just figured they recieved the fax, they had my phone # and I was all set.
Well, needless to day I did not get it turned on yesterday. I spent the night at a hotel that had electricity (for the pump of course) and ordered up some pizza. It was okay, except my remote did not work. It is so annoying to lay in a bed and to have to keep getting up to change the channel. I finally gave up and just watch the Baby Borrower show and the god awful Celebrity Circus. That show stinks!
Anyway, I have no idea if I have power of not now and if I don’t I am calling them back and telling them I am stuck in my power bed and and folded up like a taco. Why do I think they will not care?
you should send them the bill for your room. i would be so mad if that happened to me.

I cannot believe that! I work in customer service and if I heard someone tell me that, I would find a way to make sure the power went back on. I guess I am a sucker for sad stories! Good luck with your breast pump and baby!

I work for National Grid and if that is who you have, they totally lied to you. We have plenty of trucks that take care of this and they should’ve called you 1st. We do get a lot of stories from people as to why they need power back and a lot are bs, but when it invloves kids and safety, we do what we can to fix it. And as for climbing the pole…bad idea! I’m glad you didn’t do it! Good Luck!

You should’ve said you had and old person in the house stuck in bed on oxygen and see what they said then. Your story made me laugh, I will give you that!

Well, it’s a good thing you have such a nice, generous, fantastic, beautiful little sister who would spend her Friday night painting for you….at least the walls look good!
