Well, happy Monday to me. I was off last week and while most people fill their vacations with trips to the Cape, Disney Land and other fun little things, I became one of those people who did really nothing but lounge around in my bed and act like I was un-employed. I did manange to go to Canobie Lake Park and a trip to see some relatives in Maine, but other than that I really spent some quality time with Detective Brisco and the cast of Law & Order. I never realized that show is on really 24 hours a day as long as you have every cable channel!
So to give you a few nuggets to help get you though the day, I will share some of my thoughts from last week.
1st…I HATE FLIES! My son plays Pop Warner football and he has had practice everynight from 6-8:45 PM. I think the field we practice on is a breeding ground for these things! It doesn’t matter how much bug spray I have one, they just LOVE to frolic around me and bite me! I was so tempted to buy a screen house and set it up everynight at practice but then you know what would happen…every parent would want to come into my sweet little fly free fortress and then I would have to make small talk and entertain, and then I would feel like I need to offer snacks and drinks to everyone so I can be a good host and before you know it we are all just drinking beer and making bad decisions. So scrap the screen house idea…I just park super close to the field and sit in my car. At least I can listen to the radio and keep the flies away!
I also went to Canobie Lake Park which I haven’t been to since I was in like 8th grade. I had my kids and their friends with me and it was nice to let them have some fun on MY vacation as I stood by passing out the cash for their entertainment! It was the same park I went to as a kid without many changes. It was a fun day. There was a group there called “Lyrix” who are the parks own boy band. I thought my 6 year old and her posse would enjoy it so I arrive early enough to get a front row seat thinking I was the best dad ever. Well, she wanted nothing to do with it and had this super mad face on for the entire show! I was thinking about just getting up and leaving so she could go back on the Dragon Coaster, but when you are in the front row of a small seating area, it is very clear when you get up and leave and I didn’t want the group to think we were leaving because they were bad or something, so I made her stick it out.
The band wasn’t that bad, but I couldn’t help but think that they must feel silly up there. I mean, they were probably in there 20′s, up on a stage in front of maybe 40 people singing New Kid on the Block songs and doing all of the dance moves. I give them credit for being able to do it. I would never want to be the boy band of a amusement park. It really isn’t something that is going to land you a record deal or make you rich, so they truly do it for the love of entertaining and NKOTB. They could actually sing pretty good, so it wasn’t a waste of time. I’m just saying, it must be hard to be their age and sing Hangin’ Tough for 40 kids and their parents 4 times a day, 7 days a week for an entire summer!
I also spent some time getting my new facebook profile up to par. I needed some friends so went on an expidition to find people I have not talked to in forever. I managed to bulk up my list and talk to some people. It is cool to see where everyone is and what they are doing. It is funny to see some of the one’s who were always better than everyone else doing nothing with their lives and vice versa. Some of the people who I would think would be in jail by now are doing very well for themselves which is good. There are even a few girls Iwent to school with who were quiet and never had boyfriends looking better than most woman now and I kick myself for not realizing their potential! I could’ve had some ugly girlfriend back in school that would look like a model now! DAMN! Oh well, I guess that may sound shallow. Someday I will tell you about my high school days. I was able to entertain myself and still pass classes. It is still a mystery to many how I turned out the way I did. Even my parents had me pegged for pumping gas I think. hahaha!
I had some sad news too. An old friend from High School lost her mom. She was a great lady and even though the years (like 15!) after we lost contact, I would think of her. She was always so cool to be around and was always super nice to me. I had many laughs with her and it was sad to hear she had passed away. It seems like just yesterday I was hanging at her house teaching me how to stretch my back out, have fun with life and how to deal with her crazy daughter who was my best friend! It makes you realize how short life is and how important it is to not lose contact with people you care about! I was able to talk to her husband Russ who I also lost touch with (I don’t think they ever did get married, but they were together for ever so I will call him that) and that was nice. He was always able to keep things in perspective with a great sense of humor. He NEEDED it living in that house with 3 women! hahaha! They are just awesome people and I was sad to hear about it. You ROCK Judy and I’m sorry we lost touch! You will be missed by many!
Sorry for bringing it down a bit. So here I am back at work. It is around 10:30 AM while I am typing this and I am already looking at the couch in my office and thinking about taking a snooze. It is tiring to be back at work. Everyone keeps coming by to see how my week is and by the time I tell them about all of the things I didn’t do, I am exhausted. I may go grab a diet coke and shut my door and have a “meeting” for the next hour or so.
I have a lot more to write about, but it will have to come later. Typing is wearing me out!
Glad you are back. Work sucked without your witty humor. You owe us a few extra’s!

I haven’t been to Canobie Lake Park in a long time! I have to go now! I was there all of the time growing up in Lowell. Do they still have the Turkey Twist?
